A report has surfaced stating that the iPad 2 will have some new features such as NFC/RFID addons, a carbon fiber shell, and a 7” iPad is still coming.
Here’s what they say about NFC/RFID:
According to our source, Apple is actively developing new accessories that will communicate with the near-field radio chips reportedly built into new iPads and iPhones. In the most basic implementation, an accessory could announce its presence and potential functions to an iPad or iPhone without the need for a Bluetooth or similar connection; our source suggests that an otherwise simple case could include a radio chip so that an inserted iPhone or iPad could go into power-saving hibernation mode automatically. More complex accessories will go far beyond that.
The carbon fiber shell would replace the aluminum of the original iPad to cut down on the weight.
Finally, they believe the 7” iPad is still floating around despite the fact Steve Jobs has previously said they will not be making one.
The NFC could play a part with earlier rumors and it’s nice seeing new rumors besides its display and components.
