Editor's Note: Super-light, ultra-trick and artfully crafted, Blackstone Tek (BST) wheels are now available for BMW's new Superbike, the S 1000 RR, through Brock's Performance.
DAYTON, Ohio. - As if BMW's first true Superbike wasn't light, fast and cool enough, BST has a set of carbon fiber wheels that will bestow the S 1000 RR with agile, middleweight-like handling and high-end street cred.
A 16-lb. set of BST wheels will endow the Beemer with sharper corner-carving abilities, enable even faster acceleration and promote quicker braking by weighing less than their OEM counterparts, reducing unsprung mass and gyroscopic effects in cornering. This equates to stronger street performance, quicker lap times at the track and more attention at local tire-kicking sessions.
BST's five-spoke wheels feature a trick, single-piece construction. They utilize carbon fiber strands woven in a unidirectional pattern, embedded in a resin matrix, cured in a high-pressure autoclave at 250 degrees and coated with a chemical-resistant, high-gloss finish. The completed rims roll on maintenance-free, precision-sealed Worldwide Bearings steel bearings encased in low-friction seals with aerospace-grade grease. Outfitted with ultra-light, billet aluminum hubs and integrated rotor carriers, they have internal cush drives and come ready to bolt on. With the confidence of a higher strength-to-weight ratio than any alloy, BST carbon fiber wheels are covered by a two-year, manufacturer's warranty.
Proven internationally at every level of FIM Grand Prix competition and in winning 12 national championship titles around the world, BST's finest are DOT-legal for street use in America and approved for WERA roadracing and AMA Dragbike competition.
Supporting the sport in 2010, BST is offering $24,000 of race contingency money in WERA roadracing, $20,000 in AMA Dragbike and is the headline sponsor of Dragbike's BST Real Street series. Team Hooters will contest the WERA National Endurance series equipped with BST wheels, while nine-time AMA national champion Rickey Gadson heads up BST's assault in drag racing. On the tuck-in-and-gas-it front, land-speed record holders John Noonan and Leslie Porterfield, motorcycling's fastest man and woman, and many other top-speed demons, also roll on BST rims.
Transforming the ways a bike accelerates, handles and stops, BST wheels are now available in 3.50 in. and 6.0 in. sizes (with 6.25 in. and 6.625 in. sizes coming soon) for the S 1000 RR, at $3990 per set, or $4240 with optional ceramic bearings. Model-specific BST rims for other sportbikes can also be purchased from Brock's Performance.
