Carbon fiber hood advantages

An automobile hood is required to protect the engine and the adjacent machinery from the outside elements. Otherwise too an open car engine and machinery will not be an eye pleasing sight. So a hood functions both as a shield and a screen. A hood is a necessity, but if smartly selected it can improve the looks of your car.

Manufacturers try to keep various parts of the automobile as light as is possible. A heavier vehicle will require more power and energy to drive. That will add to your running expenses. Carbon fiber is a light material. It can also be molded into a desired shape. It is therefore eminently suitable for being used in manufacturing a car or auto hood.

Moreover a carbon fiber hood not only reduces overall weight of an automobile, it reduces it at a place where it is more advantageous. It reduces weight on the front wheels, which improves balance of the vehicle while driving. The front wheels are the wheels which you steer your car with. If there is a heavy load on them the ability to steer gets compromised. And if the load is reduced the ability to steer is enhanced.

Apart from being light, carbon fiber is also tough and strong. During its life time a hood has to be opened and closed on many occasions. It has therefore to be sufficiently strong to stand up to this type of usage. Carbon fiber is lighter than metals and other materials and yet strong. It is durable as well.

Another important factor in its favor is that carbon fiber can withstand heat. If proper vents are made in the hood air flow will keep the engine cool. A cool engine is more efficient. For the same quantity of fuel it will give more power.
